No former leader would have attempted – really, no previous leader would have conceived – solo demolishing large sections of the White House to construct a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the direct cooperation of some of the richest Americans, nearly all of which conduct transactions with federal agencies.

As confusing as it is to watch the chief executive attempt to overturn the traditional concept about democracy and replace it with its polar opposite, there is one large group of Americans who wouldn't consider it entirely new. That encompasses people such as ourselves – within elder demographics close to half – who were brought up within mainstream Protestant traditions.
We have watched throughout the years as politically conservative religious groups transformed the Christ we grew up with into the complete reverse of who we understood him to be. Fundamentally, they transformed an image of affection into a symbol of hostility who approves specifically the brutality that he criticized in scripture; this change developed more gradually, through multiple decades as opposed to months, yet it remains unsettling in the same ways, a bewildering emotional blow for countless people.
A Harmful Christianity Takes Hold

The obvious and straightforward fact that the Savior of the gospels advocates for a kind of extreme compassion focused on the poor has consistently rendered Christian religion somewhat of a provocative belief system: appealing to the populace, but owing to its intrinsic extremism needing to be controlled. In the 1950s it was contained through watering down – The Protestant faith was so prevalent that it practically baptized the status quo.
A Battle for the Best Among Us
Therefore I have felt heartened to witness the persistent defiance against Trump arise during the previous year. It has provided great solace to participate in developing the movement that has protested openly via continuous gatherings, and appears to have motivated voters to show up in numbers during minor elections.
