Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent defended four early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
