Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
