Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
